Hello blog followers!

I just wanted to stop by earlier in the week to spread a little fun thankful cheer for the Thanksgiving season. I have a lot to thankful for, but I'd like to share a personal testimony that I'm particularly thankful for.

My sweetie and I went to my friend Elaine’s house one Saturday morning to bring her some gas. She and her husband managed to run out right down the street from the house and ended up pushing the car home. As Hou and, one of my best friends mind you, stood by the front of their jeep talking, her husband tried to get the jeep started. By some freak accident the clutch popped when he turned the key to see if the car would start and it lurched forward.

The jeep had suddenly plowed down the love of my life and my best friend! She had fallen on top of him and they were pinned beneath the driver’s side tire. Needless to say I freaked! I possibly just saw this man kill my man and my best friend! I was hysterical! I beat the hood repeatedly screaming for him to back up. When he complied, I rushed to their aid.

Talk about divine intervention! They were alive and had suffered only minor injuries. Hou had a bruised his tail bone from impact to the ground and a goose egg sized lump on the back of his head and Elaine had a broken toe and bruises up the right side of her body from the tire.

We didn’t know this, of course until we went to the ER. Neighbors saw what happened and called an ambulance. They asked us what happened when we arrived and we explained no one believed us. How could you get ran over by a jeep Cherokee and live to tell the tale? Of course, all that changed when they saw the tread marks on the scrub pants they cut off Elaine to check her out.

I am extremely thankful that my man or best friend wasn’t really hurt or worse, killed because that was a real possibility, in that accident. I would have needed some heavy duty counseling that I truly can’t afford to ease the crushing pain my heart would have suffered at the lose of the two most important people in my life. Country songs would have been written about me.

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving, my friends! Take this time to look inside yourself and find who you’re thankful for. They could be lost to me in a blink of an eye. Tell them how much you love and care for them now while they can hear you. You never if that will be the last time you have to say so.

Hello blog followers!

I just wanted to stop by and spread fun, thankful, good cheer for the Thanksgiving season. So many things to be thankful for, where to start, where to start…

First…I am so thankful for Margiano’s for coming to Indiana. Talk about the most delicious food ever... It is to die for. I could never get tired of their food. The only problem is eating there all the time would cause two major problems: 1) I’d be big as a house from eating way too much fantastic Italian food and 2) it would render me broke! You have to pay for the good stuff. LOL

Let’s see, what else? Oh! I am so thankful that they kicked Nancy Grace off of Dancing with the Stars…finally! I mean, what the hell! They bounced David Arquette and he was doing great! Nancy’s feet was all over the place. I’m she lost the weight because it looks good on her, but she should never had been there as long as she was. *rolls eyes*

Some else, something— Oh yes! I’m so thankful that I don’t have to go to Colorado to go skiing. Paoli Peaks is only 3 hours away. A day trip is all it takes to get me to the slops. I still suck at it no matter how many times Hou takes me show off his skills, but I still like going. LOL

What else, what else? Oh yes. Although mind is constantly going, rolling over ideas and situations, I am thankful that it doesn’t take more than two drinks to quiet it down. I mean could you imagine. O-O Trust me, you wouldn't want to see me after third. HA! So, kudos to whoever came up with the idea to mix vodka with cranberry juice. Awesome!

Okay, I think I’m done for now. So tell me guys…what fun things are you thankful for this holiday season? My comment box is waiting to hear about it :)

Welcome readers!

We would first like to thank Jaxx Steele for letting us at Guys Like Romance Books, Too! interview him, one of our favorite gay romance authors. First, we’d like to know a little about you, Jaxx.

How long have you been a published author?

I have been published for five years now. I sold my first story in October, 2006.

Do you have a writing ritual? How often do you write and where do you write?

Rituals? You mean like spinning around two times before I sit at my desk or tossing salt over my left shoulder? LOL Nothing as serious as that, but I do have the TV playing whenever I am writing. I need some kind of white noise going on in the back ground before I can immerse myself in the story. I write every day. Sometimes a few minutes sometimes a few hours. It depends on how long the characters talk to me. I have a central location with a desk, shelves, a printer, everything I need, but you can usually find me with my laptop on the couch so that Hou can lie beside me while I write. J

Do you have a favorite genre to write & why?

Although I have books in several genres, contemporary, paranormal, shifter, vampires, May-December, BDSM and pirates, I would say my favorite is BDSM. I like pushing the edge and tampering with the forbidden. LOL

We’ve been to your website, very nice, by the way, and you have several books published. What was the first book you released?

The first book I published was By the Moonlight. I was released in October of 2006. It is a vampire story available at Dreamspinners Press.

Oh yes! I know it well and enjoyed it, too. I confess to not having read all of your books, but I do have a few personal favs, Care Package, Freed from Fear and Frozen Spring Break. Can you tell us how the ideas for these stories originated?

Care Package came to me just after the president signed the repeal for the DADT. I wanted to show what life might have been like for gay men in the service during their time in and after the bill was signed.

As for Freed from Fear, I am from New York and 911 affected me personally. Losing someone is hard enough, but losing them without any type of closer can be even more devastating. I wanted to show the many levels that people grieve on and how they heal.

With Frozen Spring Break, I wanted to do a story from a different perspective. Everyone I know who goes away for spring break goes somewhere warm because it is cold where they are. I figured there had to be someone out there who actually enjoyed the cold weather. LOL So I wrote his story.

Of all your books is there one character who flowed flawlessly onto the page? Was there one who stumbled along struggling to cooperate?

Oh my gosh yes! Sergeant Dwayne Roman (Care Package) was easy as pie. I had his personal story written in two days. It seemed to take forever to get the rest of that story down once he was developed. LOL I also thought Dominick Pappas (Papa knows Best) flowed easily, too. Dana Scott (Freed from Fear) however, was my Achilles heal. He had a lot of emotional issues to work out, so it took some time to get him together. Come to think of it, Lovell Johnston (The gift that keeps on giving) was a pain in the butt, too. LOL In the end I think they came out pretty good.

Indeed they did! How much do you know about your heroes before you begin writing? Are you a plotter or pantster?

I guess I would be a plotter. I know just about everything before I start writing. I know back story, the beginning, the middle and how the story will end. What I don’t know is how the characters get from the beginning to the middle and from the middle to the end. It’s the journey that the characters dictate. At that point I am just dictation as they speak to me.

Your books take place in a lot of different cities. Frozen Spring Break is in Tahoe, Care Package is in Atlanta, A Knight at The Speedway is in Indianapolis and you have a pirate story on your upcoming books list is on a ship! Obviously you did research for that one, but do you usually do a lot research when you write a book?

Yes, I do. I do research on everything I write. I want everything I put into cyberspace to be accurate. I use mostly online sources since they are readily accessible, but I still do personal research too. I visit places and do things first hand so I’d know what it was like. Sometimes secondhand knowledge isn’t enough. You have to experience things for yourself in order to write about them. So, before I say something that can actually be searched and proven yay or nay, I make sure it is true or false before I say it’s true or false.

Hmm, I think I may have to go back and read a few of your books to see if I can guess which were researched and which were actually done.

LOL I’ll never tell.

What are some of the challenges do you face in your writing process?

Getting too caught up in the story is always hard. With Care Package and Freed from Fear I had to relive some pretty bad memories. That was both good and bad. It added realism to the characters, but re-living the situation wasn’t easy.

Do you have a favorite character or story?

That’s like asking a father if he has a favorite child. LOL They say something like, ‘of course not. I love them all the same’. So I will not tell you that I am partial to Right side of the Tracks because it too made me relive a few of my own memories. J

Are there any authors out there that have influenced or inspired your writing?

I would have to say Bertrice Small and Thea Devine had a hand in influencing my writing. Their books were the first erotic romances I ever read. I had read many romances before I came across their books, but they introduced me to the concept that there could be sex in romance novel, not just simulated sex. That gave me the idea to do gay romances.

What has been the happiest moment in your writing career?

Nothing beats the feeling you get when you read the email that says: We would like to offer you a contract for “insert book title here”. The elation that comes with knowing someone else loved your creation cannot be described.

What tip or bit of advice would you share with a fledgling author?

There are two things I’d like to share.

Read what’s out there to see what is accepted and then try to push pass those limits.
Always seek to improve on your craft. No matter how good your story is a publisher won’t bother finishing it if the ‘writing’ sucks. You are a writer as well as an author so learn to write the best you can.

A day on Plunderer’s Pride

"It’s a pirate’s life is for me!"

Life is hard, but worthwhile on the pirate ship Plunderer's Pride. Follow Captain Julian Hazard and his band of ruffians as they go about their daily business. As you endure the daily struggles and nightly rewards of these ship hardened men you may find that a pirate's life may be for you, too.

Excerpt:

"The men are assembled, Cap'n, awaiting your orders," Nigel's voice said outside his cabin some time later.

Captain Hazard swung the door open and followed his right hand man to the main level of the ship. His crew was in full complement covering a good portion of the deck when he rose from the lower level.

"I will get right to it, men. Our rest at Port Royal is over. The governor has given me a Letter of Marque and wants us to take a Spanish galleon before it reaches its home in Hispaniola. We leave before sunrise, but before the adrenaline burns in our blood giving us the energy to fight we will feel it surge with passion! Tonight we feast and renew our bonds, lads! For tomorrow's battle may be glorious and even victorious, but it may also be your last!"

The pirates erupted in a loud cheer. The merriment the captain's words elicited charged the air as he led the way to the galley. The crew feasted on recently pilfered meat, cheeses, wine, fowl and other delicacies from the Panamanian ship. When the meal was done the men left the room pairing off as they moved toward the crew quarters.

Along the three walls were a set of bunk beds to sleep. The room was large, but still too small for so many large men to share comfortably. A thin blanket rested at the foot of each and several small trunks underneath labeled with a man's name. The men chose to share the beds in rotation with the overflow taking to the floors finding their comfort on thicker blankets.

The captain followed his crew mates guiding Nigel into a corner where he sat on a stool and pulled the big man into his lap. The men kissed on the mouths and fondled each other openly. Hard, sea roughened pirates hugged, kissed and touched affectionately on their mates. Soon only heavy breathing, moans and lustful grunts could be heard as the men discarded clothing and got to the business of love making. The space heated quickly and the smell of sweat and sex filled the overcrowded room intoxicating him.

Get to know Jaxx: day 4

Today's topic: your books!

Which book took the longest to complete?
Most of them took about the same time, but Freed From Fear (Muse it Hot) seemed to take forever to get done. Dana and Frank wouldn't talk to me consistently so it took longer than the others. I wrote 2 other books while writing that one.

What book came to you and just flowed to the pages?
By the Moonlight (Dreamspinners Press). I saw Byron practically cast a line out and snare Jared to coax him over to the dark side...so to speak. LOL It was like I was there watching Byron convice his friend that he loved him and they would be happy together. All I had to do was write down what I saw.

What character was the easiest to write?
Dwayne Roman (Care Package-Silver Publishing). Along with By the Moonlight, this book was easy to write. It was like I knew Roman personally, his likes, dislikes, wants, needs, everything. I was just telling a friend's story that needed to be told and he wouldn't shup up talking to me until I finished it. LOL

What book made you do the most research?
I did a lot of research for Healing the Beast Within (Phaze). I wanted my folklore to ring true. I always do my homework before I state something that could be looked up as real.

Do you prefer doing contemporary romance or fantasy? Which are your favorites? Why?
Although I have many more contemporaries than fantasies, I like those better. They're more fun to do. My favorite contemporary romance is The gift that keeps on giving (Red Rose Publishing)because it shows how close Lovell and his family was and they really did know what was best for him. As for the fantasy, I guess it would be Indian Blood Moon (Phaze) just because I loved building Magnus. :)

The idea behind author blog exchanges is to meet people and widen your circle of friends, so that’s what I thought I’d blog about today.
It’s such a small world now days. Once people rarely had the opportunity to meet and befriend people from other cultures and countries unless they were lucky enough to travel, but with the advent of the internet, the whole world is now at our fingertips…literally!
I look at my writing and although Fallout, my new release is set in Australia and has Australian Characters, I also write stories using other nationalities. I have a team of US Marines in a linked series that will hopefully be published in the near future and it always gets people curious as to why I used Marines…well why not? What’s not to love about a Marine?! The uniform, the discipline, the uniform, the history….the uniform!!!!!!
Fallout though, is based on an Australian soldier, who has been wounded and newly released from Army life…have you figured out I have a military theme going in my writing yet?!
It also has Tully-- a Detective in big trouble! Who is not about to sit back and let any man—especially a sexy, sure of himself ex-soldier step in and rescue her. This is one damsel more at home with causing distress to bad guys, then waving a lace handkerchief for help.

Jaxx Steele here to give you my take on older men. I wanted to take this moment to give props to sexy older men. The man that is aging like fine wine, getting sexier with age, your Sean Connerys, Mark Harmons, Samuel Jacksons and Antonio Banderas’ of the world.
I write romances and work really hard trying to bring out my characters inner as well as outer beauty. Most of my characters are, although it is not stated you get the impression, in their mid twenties to mid thirties. I have also written a few May-December type romances. To date my biggest seller has been a May-December romance called Papa knows Best. In this book the pros and cons of being with an older man are highlighted. As a lover of older men I want to spotlight them and all of the beauty that comes with them.
The physical beauty of a younger man is one of his assets, a prize possession, but what else does he have going for him. I am not trying to down play the younger man, but if physical beauty fades with time and that’s all you have, well…
With an older man who is healthy in mind, body and spirit there is nothing he can’t do! He has gone though most of the changes men go through to make them men. He is less likely to change on you. What you get when you got there is what you keep. LOL Father Time has been kind to him because he remains active and lives for the day. He appreciates the days he has and lives them to the fullest. He has no problem teaching you new things and welcomes the challenge of learning new things from you. They are intelligent and worldly. His graying hair looks distinguished on him and ups his sexiness tenfold. As far as physical beauty goes, he may not possess that six pack he used to at twenty five, but at forty five he is in good shape and shows appreciation for your six pack! And Lordy! Let’s not forget the few who do still have the body they had at twenty five! Can you say HOT! Who could want anything else in a man?
I would love to read more gay romance spot lighting handsome older men. I have seen some outstanding men in their forties, just reaching their prime. Do you write about them? This summer, to my dismay, my laptop hit the floor and went to laptop heaven. It has taken me much longer than I expected to get a new one and still eat and pay bills on time. But, nevertheless, even though I felt the passage of time one second at a time, it is all over now. I have finally gotten a new one and will return to the online world full time in less than 48 hours! I can't wait to update and catch you all up on what has gone on while I was missing in action.

Gives Right side of the Tracks 5 ANGELS!

Russell is at the end of his ability to cope with everything. He gave up the man he loved, James, and walked away from his family to be there when his son was born. The only problem is that Russell is gay and a freak accident took the life of his wife, Monica, leaving him alone to raise his son, Tyrell. His wife's family was very clear that Tyrell was his responsibility alone. They even disowned their daughter after they found out she was pregnant with a white man's baby.
Russell does the only thing he can think of and calls his mother who he hasn't talked to in the three years he has been away, and she tells him to come home. Russell arrives finding love and acceptance from his family, but being home resurrects his feelings for James, especially when James comes around to see him. Russell learns that he is in the fight of his life from Monica's family, who decided to fight for custody of Tyrell. And there is still the problem of what to do about James who has no idea what happened or why Russell left in the first place. Will Russell get a second chance at love? Will he find a way to keep Tyrell, who he loves more than anything?

Mr. Steele has created a wonderful short story about the price of parenthood and second chances. Russell is a wonderful character who was willing to give up everything, even the love of his life, for the child he never thought he would have. Russell's family is the way family are supposed to be, loving and accepting. If more people were like that, the world would be a better place. I loved how James never gave up on his man even after everything that happened. Thanks go to Mr. Steele for a wonderful story.

Hotel entrepreneur Ethan Conrad wants unconditional love in the form of shy, hardworking carpenter, Marcus. What happens when the shy man unleashes his pent up lust? Find out in After the Storm.
Ethan’s forthright approach to life has earned him his fair share of ups and downs. A glimpse of Marcus straight out of the pool charges his desires and sets him on course to meet the love of his life. I loved Mr. Steele’s storytelling. He keeps the reader involved with a fast-paced story and relatable characters. I rooted for Marcus to overcome his shyness and fear of commitment in order to love Ethan. His fears are the same as everyone, we want to be loved, but we also want that love to last forever. When it doesn’t, we feel the same type of heartbreak. I enjoyed watching the relationship develop between the two men and sighed with contentedness when the story concluded.
If you like a sensual story with two heroes, then pick up a copy of After the Storm. I give this story 4 ½ cherries. Awesome!

Jaxx Steele wrote a wonderful angst ridden story, while still clinging to the notion of love must conquer all. The concept of hope clings to everything throughout this book, and it's more than enough to keep one glued to the pages. Russell Drake gets trapped by an incredible event that changes his whole world. Tyrell is his sweet little boy ~ was it worth all the pain and angst? His wife Monica is gone, his life is in shambles. James has been burned by Russell, who is ridden with guilt and a sense of duty. Will they meet and be happy? Sacrifices have to be made. Partners again? Ethnicity plays a big role in his book, as does the power of family. Russell's memories and flashbacks to better times with James, while he wrestles with his emotions, are very nicely done. Even in a nice setting, you cannot miss the money issues and unwanted family that comes with, all adding pressure. If you add court battles and hot seductions, we have a very fun way to spend some time! Plus true love. Kudos to Jaxx Steele.

Rick’s life as a teacher is perfect life when combined with a lover he adores. Then, Satan gets bored and decides that Rick is the perfect way to relieve his boredom. Rick wants to turn him down, but Satan threatens his lover and the school he works for when Rick attempts to deny him. Rick reluctantly agrees to a night of whatever depravities Satan desires, while hoping he will survive it and not regret it.

Jaxx Steele does quite a creepy turn when delving into demon sexual practices in The Devil made me do it. There is a lot of questionable consent, wrapped in the guise of BDSM, involved in this tale. I'm not sure if I was disturbed out by the erotic encounters or if I was fascinated by the story itself. Rick’s journey is both pleasurable and creepy at the same time making this story not one for the faint hearted. The Devil made me do it will definitely stay with you long after you are done reading it.

So how many of you listen to music on a regular basis? When you drive your car? When you are doing housework or cleaning your room? When you are home alone and don’t want the TV on? I like music. I have an iPod, a radio in my car, the music channels on my TV service. However, I have discovered that I seem to be a minority in today’s world. I don’t NEED music. I can drive my car from home to work, or anywhere for that matter and I don’t have to have the radio on. Sometimes I even forget it is there. When I got my iPod it was the “newest” one, my oldest son had the version and size before mine. After 6 months, we traded. He had run out of space on his, and I hadn’t even filled mine a quarter of the way. Seemed logical. I still haven’t filled the one that we traded for and I even have movies on it. I update my iTunes software and even buy things when they appeal to me but I don’t have withdrawls like the boys do when they can’t get on or I tell them no. Even my husband got into the craze.
I have even tried to write while listening to music. Now I know this is very common for authors, to have a playlist going in the background, but I find I am distracted by the noise. I can sometimes have a movie or TV show going, if I am not interested in it, but overall I like the silence. When I am writing it is as if I can hear the characters going in my head anyways, so for me the noise created by music or the TV is distracting to what is already going on. If I have to have something on though it is going to be either a musical soundtrack (i.e. Mary Poppins, Mama Mia, Hairspray, etc.), Country Music (yes you can hear the yee haws going) or something soft and New Age. I actually find the New Age to be inspirational if I get stuck when writing. Since I write paranormal I will go looking for new age with interesting titles regarding Faeries or wolves or Vampires and see what others hear when they think of those things.
For me writing is its own form of entertainment and I don’t want to cross my entertainment. When I go to the movies I very rarely hear the soundtrack when the movie is going because I am focused on the movie. Hubby is always listening to the music, that way I at least know when a good soundtrack is coming. I like music, I even listen to it for its own sake on occasion but like I said, I just don’t NEED it. I would say it is a generational thing, as my kids can’t live without their iPods, but I don’t think so. I think it is a brain thing. Everyone is different, and that isn’t to say we aren’t influencing children differently with the ability to take their music everywhere, but prior to the accessibility there were people who had to have music just as much, it was just harder for them to access it all the time.
Okay… I have spouted off my opinion. I am very interested in hearing yours. I want to know what you think about music and writing. Do you read and listen to music? Do you write to music? Do you have music with you all the time? Are you someone who prefers the quiet like me?

AFTER THE STORM is a beautiful story penned by a ‘new to me’ author, Jaxx Steele. This is a warm-hearted story filled with sadness, as well as great determination and the will to have it all. Ethan’s no wilting wallflower. He sees Marcus and knows immediately that he wants him. He’s not prepared to accept 'no' or any other excuses. Ethan takes Marcus in hand and decides to show him that he will be there for him. Marcus, who's hurt, bruised and unwilling to try at life and love again, skirts around his attraction to Ethan, but when he is backed into a corner he has no choice but to accept love again.
I loved this book. It's filled with lots of emotionally charged scenes and at a pace that keeps the reader wanting more and praying that the end never to come. Jaxx Steele is definitely one to watch.

I had to take a day or two to really think about all the things happening in this book. Jaxx Steele has not only given us a story about the obvious, but he has taken two men at differently stage of their life, different levels of confidence and different expectations out of a relationship and put them together with dynamite results. Jared Sinclair is a woman-loving vampire. He routinely takes women to his home, beds them, feeds from them and returns them from wherever they came from. His best friend, Byron, prefers men. One night after Byron made a strange comment to him, it occurs to Jared to explore Byron’s world a little more. Jared knew Byron’s life was very different from his. Jared was unprepared for how similar they could be too.
Reading this book reminded me of stories where next door neighbors don’t even realize the attraction until years, sometimes decades later. The interaction between best friends Jared and Byron is so emotional and tender that you cannot help but want to encourage their closeness. Byron slowly and carefully pulls Jared in to his world by first feeding him samples of his lifestyle as an appetizer. Once Jared is hungry for more, he feeds him a different dish, if you will. The story is wonderfully crafted and refreshingly plotted out so that the reader is never quite sure who will succeed. Bravo.

Lovell Johnston was teased mercilessly when he was a child because he was color-blind. As an adult, his uneasiness around people has led him to only have one relationship, and it was extremely casual. His job as the owner of a dating website keeps him away from interacting with people except for the written word. He is home for the holidays with his mother and sister and is unaware of the gift waiting for him.
Avery Lockhart is doing his duty by helping his family run the store. He is a lawyer by trade but doesn’t mind pitching in especially when he runs into Lovell. Well, well, well, where is the mistletoe?
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The byplay between the two characters and the diversity of their lifestyles had me laughing, anxious and eager to read more. Avery and Lovell do the dance all lovers do in the beginning but this book spices it up with the added insecurities that Lovell has harbored all his life. I cheered for the pair throughout the pages and read the last sentence with a sigh of pleasure. Well done, Mr. Steele.

I'm new to this blog thing so if you have any advice send it on over here! I do know that I am to speak to those who read this blog as though we are friends...at least that's what I've been told. LOL So let me begin by introducing myself.
I am Jaxx Steele, author of gay erotic romance. So far I have completed two short stories and have sent them out for submission. "One night with a Prince" was submitted Wednesday, Dec 12, 2007 and "The Devil made me do it" went out on Tuesday, December 18, 2007. So wish me luck on those!
I have two more that I am working on. I don't know how long they will be since the characters tell the tales and let me know when it ends...but as soon as they tell me I'm done I will let you know. *wink*
